My room needs a new look...but how do I begin?

The GREAT thing about living with today’s technology:  so many options!

The BAD thing about living with today’s technology:  so many options!

I may begin to sound like a broken record, but your home should reflect who you are, which means you have to do more than try to copy the Pinterest board you have so carefully assembled.  Don’t get me wrong - idea boards are awesome! They really help to paint the big picture of the look and FEEL you want to achieve.  SO how do you go about it?  Simple: you start with ONE item (you can have more than one, but one will do the trick!).  This item can be a piece of artwork you own or have seen online and keep going back to.  It can be a pillow; a plate; an area rug; or even a hand towel! When you gut says: I LOVE that piece! then you officially have your start. From this one item, you can start to build your color palette and make your selections.  It is so simple yet so awesome at the same time!

See here how this one print turns into a whole room:

This is my living room….I started with this print I found and HAD to have:

I knew I wanted a neutral paint color, so using the print, I chose Benjamin Moore ASHEN TAN #996.  It is a warm grey (the designer term is “greige”).

From there, I chose a peacock blue sectional and these accent pillows:

And added these accessories (some I already had):

My fireplace had the ugliest tile and unnecessary moulding, so I replaced it with a nice neutral/textural tile - “classic” is the color:

The end result:

So the lesson is - don’t overthink it! Go with what you love - what makes you smile. Once you have that piece you can build an entire room that looks great AND reflects YOU!
